07/31/2014 POTUS lawsuit:

Now the Republican controlled House of Representatives says let's sue POTUS Watching them get specific charges and allegations in place will be interesting. Here is thoughtful commentary from a few days ago. Both houses of Congress passed AUMF, PATRIOT, NDAA 2012 detention provisions, and the House passed CISPA last year. Everyone of those laws denigrates the Constitution and abrogates or nullifies parts of the Bill of Rights. Congress is no respecter of Magna Charta principle despite all the partisan grandstanding.

07/29/2014 Leahy/Cruz possible improvements:

Congress never goes quite far enough in so-called reform yet this could eventually be a small step in the right direction: from Senators Patrick Leahy & Ted Cruz*** This bill most likely will die while CISA and oppression roll on down the road.

07/22/2014 CISA (Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2014):

The most important agenda before Congress is restoration of constitutional protections for US citizens yet is not even being discussed. Repeal of AUMF, PATRIOT, and the detention provisions of NDAA 2012 are the single most important issues that Congress can address in order to preserve and ensure the longevity of traditional American values. Unfortunately the focus is now CISA, the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2014, which will further erode America's privacy and grant additional powers to the overreaching and dysfunctional intelligence communities. The entire Bill of Rights has been abrogated or nullified by so-called anti-terrorism legislation and this is more of the ill-advised same. Neverthelesss the US Senate is the last place in the world to look for enlightened decision making.

07/08/2014 POTUS lawsuit:

Here is thoughtful commentary about Speaker Boehner's lame assed lawsuit against POTUS. Some Boehner cheap shots are quoted like "What's disappointing is the president's flippant dismissal of the Constitution we are both sworn to defend ... It is utterly beneath the dignity of the office." I have not checked Boehner's voting record but my guess is that he supported AUMF, PATRIOT, NDAA 2012, CISPA (passed by House), and more ill-advised anti-terrorism legislation, all of which seriously abrogates the Constitution and appears totally unnecessary for purposes touted. Why the US is currently showcasing the Bill of Rights in Europe is a mystery since all 10 amendments have been abrogated or nullified by actions of Congress. Unfortunately Magna Charta principle was the only thing of lasting value that this nation could possibly have provided to its citizenry in perpetuity.

07/01/2014 Vidal:

Several years before Gore Vidal died in 2012, he said in an interview that America lacks an "intellectual class" and is "rotting away at a funereal pace". Further, "We'll have a military dictatorship soon, on the basis nobody else can hold everything together. Obama would have been better off focusing on educating the American people. His problem is being overeducated. He doesn't realise how dim-witted and ignorant his audience is."

Perhaps there is no viable argument to counter the points made nevertheless stronger civilian leadership could possibly reign-in militarism. In the words of Alfie Kohn, "the military should DEFEND the nation, not DEFINE it". Nonetheless components of DoD have abrogated constitutional protections with the implicit blessings of a dysfunctional self-serving congress and an apparently indifferent executive. No one in the United States government seems focused on preserving Magna Charta principles above all else.
